Acid Coral

Acid coral and bright orange are my favourite colours this summer. I am surrounded by them or I surround myself around them more like it. Those shades are full of life and excitement and what's more they complement summer tan like nothing else. . . Unfortunately I do not own anything of those tones . . . yet!

But Imma definitely change that!

To compensate myself I made a veil. I had half a meter of acid coral/orange tulle left from this project I did back in January. I wasn't quite sure what to do with it.

That was until I saw the latest issue of Pigeons&Peacocks and their editorial called 'PAINT'. The mag features dresses by Tanya Ling, a graduate of St Martins school of Art. She does everything from illustration and painting to fashion design.

The dresses look like they've been painted with acrylics and kind of remind the of those ball gowns Dolce&Gabbana did few years back. This is the much modern take. Simple in shape and colour.

So I basically borrow the idea of painting fabric and used it on my veil.

Modelled by moi, is the veil before Photoshop editing.

This was an experiment really to see what looks like. I used acrylics in primary colour and white to create highlights. I took the brush for a walk basically.

The result is surprisingly very effective. I particularly like the contrast between those colours and texture of the brushstrokes.

It looks as if I painted my face when I squint my eyes.

And this picture is quite good as well-light, composition and so on.

As i LOOOVE making digital collages i couldn't pass making one for this veil. I usually use them as background.

Here I combined every lovely acid coral/orange nature I could find in my photographs. Flamingos, and those other birds with roses and those other flowers-very specific. I then just organised those images and set the saturation sky high! That's how I like it lately.

Defo more acrylic painting for me in future!

I shall post my painted bottles next!!!

Lights, lights

The other night I was in a real great mood thanks to certain someone. I wanted to make a veil/mask from white tulle I had. I made one out of faux fur a while back for my Final Major Project but this time I was in a mood to make something light and eerie...

Here's the mask on my face before the edit:
I embroidered the mask with silver thread. Initially they were meant to be twinkles but then when I put the mask on, it kind of looked like cracked glass.
Still following the 'light' theme, I worked in an image of rollercoatser lighting into the picture and set the saturation up quite high- btw that's my photoshop lingo hahah. . . I'm still a rookie so let it go...
The finished piece reminds me of Bjork's 'Hyperballad' Video-the layered imagery and lots of little lights.

Underneath are feet crystals grow like plants . . .

Last Sunday I went to see the one and only Bjƶrk !!! She played a little concert in Manchester as part of MIF. It was art!

The Tesla Coil produced beautiful lightenings in sync with the synth, the choir sang eerie, clashing harmonies, and the screens were showing a seal being consumed by starfish, all of which was narrated by David Attemborough during interludes. . . .Fucking EPIC!
I felt like I was having the strangest dream but I definitely didn't want to wake up. . .  I can't wait for the album or the videos!

There's one song already resealed and it's beautifully called 'Crystalline'. And it goes 'Underneath are feet, crystals grow like plants(...)Internal Nebula'. Been listening to the song loads! And been very inspired. . . So decided to make another t-shirt!

Nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust and gases

I found this fabric I had bought yonks ago. The print reminds me of the effect you get when working with brusho inks. ALSO it reminded me of a Nebula and Opals. Very beautiful fabric.

These are some of the pictures I worked into the main collage. I took them in a world museum in London a while back:

Fruit/Folk Salad. . .

Last week I was feeling all creative and alive. . . summer's here-full on! With all that excitement I made a t-shirt. I had about 2 meters of this plain white jersey which I dyed flamingo pink-that name is super gay/Miami/Palms beach/The Birdcage/cool I could not resist! It was real simple to make as I used a batwing pattern. Mmm 80s!

And Just before I collaged it with pictures I took over last week. Insects, fruit and hand-made crepe paper corsages made by my lovely Nana Anna :)

I think this looks pretty cool and will deffo make more. . . maybe print on em or embellish them?! Who knows....

Colour Blocking . . . .

This spring and summer colour blocking is a huge trend. . . Gucci, Prada, MiuMiu, Jil Sander, Christopher Kane. . . And obviously the high street shops. It's all about clashing colours in a tasteful way. . .
Last Saturday I went to a Sefton Park Africa festival and took pictures of ROCKIN' COLOUR BLOCKIN!

Moustache Sundays. . .

Yeaaah. . . That's all I do on my Sunday evenings after work . . . haha! I sculpt my moustache xD

Final Cut . . .

Something very special happened happened yesterday....
My brother Viktor has been growing his hair for the past two years and yesterday he decided to CUT IT OFF!!!

He asked me to come with him which I thought was super nice-felt warmth inside haha!- I took him to Voodou in Topman as it was the only place available there and then. He wanted to just do it without thinking about it. It's such a small thing when you think about it but I still find it very shocking.

On top of that the hairdresser lady thought we were twins which Vik and I never get as I'm two years older! But it was nice. After his haircut I got him a t-shirt that says 'Hello I'm Awesome'. So Viktor and I experienced some super extra brother-to-brother bonding which was just great :)

Under Prada's Spell. . .

Since I study fashion I thought why not do a review of my favourite S/S 2011 collection... Prada of course!

That collection started my whole obsession with Ms Prada and her art. Unlike other designers, she sees women in a totally different light. The sex-appeal starts with their personality, intelligence, taste after which you experience the seductive side... This beautiful skirt taken from current collection is a great example. What you notice first of all is the unusual print-Those tropical bananas are not sexy...they're funny. They hit you like the smell of public toilets...strong! It is so playful and harmlessly eccentric.  Later on you notice that the skirt is fitted snugly around her hips and thighs, and the frilled hem is showing her beautiful knees and legs. And that's exactly the type of perfect balance of sex and personality Prada's mastered.

The whole show is just mind blowing! Stripes, bananas, monkeys! You feel like you're on holiday in the sunny Cuba!!! It is the most fresh and modern collection I have seen in a long time. My favourite parts are:

-Baroque sketches overlapping those crazy stripes
-Colour combinations
-Silhouettes-snug on the hip loose on the top.
-20s hair-dos
-Those crazy brogues! I call 'em shape-ups
-Heavy use of cotton
-Use of faux fur

Even the entire high street is following her fashion commands like little puppies. But since when was the high street ever original ?!?!

And here's my little Prada equation:

I used to be a shirt I swear!!!

To whoever is reading this,

Couple of moths ago I did a project called deconstruct/reconstruct. It was about taking a garment apart and making something new out of it. I'm pretty sure everyone in art foundations done it. Anyway I remember there was one garment that came out quite nicely and I must say the idea was quite clever. So I thought I'd share it with the world:

I found this amazing vintage shirt and it was only £2.50!!!

I then cut the sleeves off and the rest of the top part-collar and shoulders.

I bought a meter of thick black elastic and put it in-it was only about 90p.

And Ta Da. . . ! The skirt even has a pocket!!!

Strange coincidence

Me and my good friend EsmeƩ have this weird thing going on. . . each time we come into college our choice of clothing is strangely similar. . . it's mostly the colours! Here's a good example:
I look like flag of Monaco and Es like flag of Poland!!! Funny stuff
Monaco

Poland

Shall post more of those- Ad xxx
